Culinary School Graduation Holiday Giveaway
Tomorrow I graduate from culinary school! What a year it has been. I knew it would be difficult and it certainly was. But I learned a lot about myself and am happier for it. I’m moving forward on a career path that excites me. This is the beginning!
My dear friend and fellow blogger S.j. over at Cooking School Confidential and Forme of Cury wrote a great blog entry a few months ago called Should I go to culinary school from someone who has been. It’s a good if you’re considering attending school, especially as a second career. I share most of her opinions and believe we had a very similar experience. But the bottom line is I would do it all over again.
This blog gave me a lot of strength throughout the year. Sometimes I neglected it terribly, but it was always there for me and I knew you were all there reading when I posted rambles or recipes or both. Your support has meant the world to me! For that reason I’m offering a holiday giveaway as a heartfelt thanks to you all. One reader will win a $25 gift card to Dean & Deluca!

Here are the rules; for every step you follow, you’ll receive an additional entry in the contest. You can do one step or all of them.
- Post a comment here telling me your favorite holiday treat.
- Become a fan of Savory Simple on Facebook. Post a comment here letting me know you took this step!
- Follow @SavorySimple on Twitter. Post a comment here letting me know you took this step!

Congratulations!!! I really REALLY want to go to culinary school. :(

oh dear, I must pick just one. Well, it would have to be all things peppermint. I love that it’s all around during this time of year!
Hey Thanks for commenting on my blog i’m rather new at it. I read yours and enjoy it very much. My favorite hoilday treat is by far peppermint bark. I love the stuff.
I envy you. What I wouldn’t give to drop it all and run away to culinary school. Best wishes as you launch the next phase of your life. You do plan on continuing the blog don’t you? We need to follow you as you get your first restaurant, cookbook and Food Network program.
What’s stopping you? You can do anything you want and you only live once. I should have done this years ago. There’s always a way to make it happen!
And don’t worry, the blog isn’t going anywhere. Hopefully one day I’ll be listing my classes here!
Congrats! Really…what an accomplishment!
My favorite treat…hmmm…this is REALLY hard. Something with peppermint…or any cookies. But I’m not picky!
Congratulations!!! I have been a friend on Facebook for quite awhile and really love your blog. I really don t tweet but for this special occasion please check your messages! My favorite Christmas treat is almost impossible to narrow down because this time of year seems to be all about excess…..egg nog and wassail which I don t drink other than during the holidays, super thin cut out Christmas sugar cookies, ginger crinkles, raspberry bars , shortbread etc etc. If I have to choose what says Christmas to me the most is fruitcake and I mean a dark spicy cake with layers of dried cherries, currants, figs, apples ,walnuts, orange peel that have been macerated in Grand Marnier. I have to be so careful when I make this and not eat too much batter because it definitely can warm you up quickly!
Congratulations! My favorite holiday treat is the “white trash” (some call it “puppy chow”) powdered-sugar-and-chocolate-covered-cereal-and-nut concoction that my mom and I make every year. (BTW, came here via Dining @ Large.)
My favorite holiday treat is the Buche de Noel. It isn’t the holidays without it!

Your blog is brilliant ! And congratulations on completing culinary school, it’s a long time dream of mine. I’ve just followed you on Twitter.
Congratulations! That’s quite an accomplishment! My favorite holiday treat is a pumpkin roll cake! I’m not done with pumpkin after Thanksgiving!
Cannolis! I’m already a fan on facebook.
Thanks to Washington Eats for pointing me your way. Congratulations of your graduation. Looking forward to reading back through your blog and seeing your future posts as well. The blue cheese and pear tart sounds so good. I need to make an appetizer for Christmas night and it would be perfect.
My favorite Holiday treat is “reindeer cookies”. They are a rolled out version of Russian Tea Cakes which I cut out the first year with a reindeer cookie cutter I inherited from a friend of my Grandmother. Turned out to be a not so great decision becuase the combination of a very delicate cookie and a cookie cutter that has very narrow sections leads to a very high rate of broken cookies. But once a reindeer cookie, always a reindeer cookie.
I am now following you on Twitter, Facebook and tweeted your message. Thanks for the opportunity to win!
Many belated congratulations on making it through! Thank you for posting SJ’s link, I believe it’s incredibly important that people read it and know what they’re in for prior to going through school. I have a buddy that graduated from Colorado Culinary Institute or something like that and owns sub-urban trading company (you can find them on Facebook) in Kensington, MD who recently recommended that people avoid culinary school altogether and find an apprenticeship. As a former “insider” who never went to culinary school, I’m inclined to agree with him and believe that there’s nothing you learn in school that you can’t learn after working 6 months in a kitchen (at least when it comes to basic knife skills). That said, I’m a FORMER insider who is probably disgruntled and could never hack it in the restaurant but I’m also happy to have found your blog!!!
