Holiday Gifts For Food Lovers (Under $35)

Have you finished your holiday shopping yet? If you’re like me, you’ve barely started. I avoid malls after Thanksgiving and shop exclusively online.  Pajamas are better than long lines, I always say.  Anyway, I’ve been perusing the internet for gift ideas and I thought I’d share some of my favorite finds with you!  I think the spiced gingerbread butter from Williams-Sonoma would be the perfect stocking stuffer.  And if anyone bought me Momofuku Milk Bar cookies,  I’d literally squeal with joy.  The cornflake and compost cookies look to die for.  Oh right, I’m shopping for others...

  13. You know, I buy vegetable boullion (never quite remember how to spell that…ha) in the concentrated gel kind of form you find in supermarkets and those containers, once washed and the lable peeled, make excellent spice containers. Plus it lets me be creative making labels for them. Do you have a cookbook suggestion for someone who needs a meat-and-potatoes-all-around-basics kind of cookbook. I was trying to think of what my own suggestion would be. I have a great one for vegetarians, but for meat-ivores, I’m not sure. Is it better to start with Betty Crocker or Better Homes and Gardens or Julia Child? Any thoughts?

    • The cookbook that comes immediately to mind is ‘Barefoot Contessa’s Back To Basics.’ It has a lot of classic, easy recipes.

  21. I’m happy that I do not have many people around me to buy gifts for. I suck in picking the right gift.
But for myslef I would love to have that cookbook.

    December 3, 2011
  22. I agree – pyjamas are better than long lines! And even better is saving the money otherwise spent on mass-made items that we ‘need’, and instead spending time.

You see, we aren’t buying anything this year for Christmas – and we actually hope not to get any! Mostly because we will be taking only a suitcase (each!) for our big move overseas.. but also because we decided that better than consuming stuff, is offering time and homemade goods for those we love. Don’t forget that during this consumer-period of spend, spend, spend!

  23. How lovely – such great ideas :) Thanks so much! I feel honored.

  34. Oh wow, thanks for all the awesome gift ideas. Especially the gingerbread butter. I’ve been wanting to make my own but have no idea what all goes into it. Maybe I should just suck it up and buy some already prepared. Unless of course you happen to have a good recipe for it… :)

    December 5, 2011

    December 6, 2011
  41. Quite a selection. Tartine book is a keeper. I’ve made the Devils Food Layer Cake several times and those extra touches make it extra special. The Le Creuset Gratin dishes are great for roasting one chicken breast for dinner, too.

  43. Anything Le Creuset is great! That was my Christmas present last year-a new Le Creuset pot!

    December 12, 2011
  44. You take such beautiful photos! I’m still learning to use my camera and stay out of my own shadow. How do you know Zingerman’s? I’m a U of Michigan grad, so I used to frequent the store. But, I’m wondering if professional chefs, like you, use it as an online resource. Thanks for stopping by my blog and taking the time to “like” it. I’m new and really appreciate your support.

    December 13, 2011
    • Zingerman’s has several books and I’ve read a few of them.

      December 13, 2011
