February Giveaway: Zingerman’s Home-Cheesemaking Kit
It’s time for my February giveaway! I’m so excited to be partnering with Zingerman’s to give away a Home Cheese-Making Kit. Make your own delicious cheese at home in less than one hour. Every box comes with rennet and citric acid—enough for 30 batches of cheese—as well as instructions on how to make your own mozzarella or ricotta from scratch. All you need to provide is milk and salt.
Zingerman’s is one of my favorite gourmet shops. I’ve never had the pleasure of visiting their Ann Arbor store in person, but the online shop is amazing. I trust their selection of oils and vinegars over anyone else. And if you’ve been following my blog for awhile you may know about my obsession with Zingerman’s Guide to Good Eating. Best foodie book ever. Check out their online store for great food, great books and great deals.

My favorite cheese? Right now, it’s got to be La Tur, an Italian creamy cheese made of cow, goat, and sheep milk. It’s so good…runny and slightly oozy.

Cathedral Cheddar Cheese on Toast with ketchup – cant be beat!
Cheese, cheese, cheese, oh to pick just a few I love. Blue, mozzarella, Swiss, all the good sandwich ones, goat, feta, Romano, not parm or anything mixed with fruit, but the drunken goat is good. Cheddar is awesome when it’s awesome, but sometimes a let down. Smoked is never good for some reason. Oh and I’ve forgotten ricotta, that’s terrible of me. And the might mascarpone. Also, pepperjack is good, anything hot really. Nothing beats a cheese plate. Hmm, beer cheese is good and fondue hits the spot. Brie, fontina, manchego…. Wait, did you just want a few? I think I’m starting to sound like Wallace or is Grommit! Asiago, I mean au revoir for now. Oh no, provolone, I almost forgot….
I love Gouda! It pairs perfect with cheddar in grilled cheeses!
My favorite cheese is the Mexican cheese Oxaca. So perfect for quesadillas, so good for everything melted!

Cheese – Love 97% of all cheeses but have found that while i like some cheeses in some applications, the same cheese in another recipe just isn’t right. I use parm the most followed by white Cheddar. There is a new Cheese maker here in Lexington who has started offering classes – BUT who I would love to be able to make cheese at home. Umm – homemade mozzarella! Can’t wait.

Banon de Chalais is my favorite kind of cheese, it hails from France. Like a lot of good cheeses with old techniques it is wrapped in fresh chestnut leaf’s and briefly dipped in brandy. This cow’s milk cheese is to die for! :)

I love aged Parmigiano Reggiano!
My favorite cheese is Brie. And Boursin garlic cheese. A toss up between the two. Boursin, it is. You can never have too much garlic.

Hmmm…so hard to choose! But I ate sooo much Cypress Grove Purple Haze in law school, so I think I’ll have to go with that. So unique, and so good with everything!

I looove smoked gouda. Also, a local dairy makes a cheese called Ferale which is an aged raw milk cheese washed with a beer they brew using feral yeast. So delicious!

Ooh, I like just about all cheeses – feta, gorgonzola, brie, sharp cheddar, muenster, fresh mozzarella, etc.etc. etc.
Well, I do spend time in Ann Arbor and Zingerman’s is a great resource, though you have to get up pretty early in the morning to get there in time to browse. Otherwise, you may as well do it on-line, but there is not enough room in the store.
I love many kinds of cheese and mostly eat those purchased at fancy cheese stores. I was surprised to discover a cheese I love at Trader Joe’s! It TJ’s Vintage Reserve Cheddar. It is *really* good. I can’t say I’ve discovered any other cheese finds there, but put this one on your list the next time you need a good, “cost-effective” cheese.
Ok my fav cheese is Longhorn. :)

And I realized that the cheese I posted are all really different – mimolette, chevre and fresh mozzarella . I guess that means I like them all – even stinky eppoisses!
I’m pretty sure I can’t win this contest because I’m not a US resident, but my favourite cheese would have to be a toss-up between applewood smoked cheddar or fontina. :)
Y’know, it’s silly, but I didn’t even realize that cheese was something one could MAKE AT HOME until I read an article in a woman’s magazine about “unusual” hobbies. Nothin’ weird about makin’ cheese, I think! I’ll have to try it myself one day.
La Tur has got to be my all time favorite cheese.
